Rioja
The Rioja Designation of Origin was born in 1925 and is the oldest.
It was also the first D.O. in Spain to obtain the qualification, in 1991.
Its wines are mostly produced in areas of the autonomous communities of La Rioja and País Vasco and, to a lesser extent, in Navarra and Castilla y León.
The average annual wine production is 250 million liters, with the production of red wine being higher (85% red wine and 15% white and rosé wine).
The wines of the D.O. Rioja are characterized by being fresh, aromatic and with a balanced composition.
In addition, the harvest is done by hand during October.
