Empordà
Since 1975, the designation was called Empordà-Costa Brava, but on 16 February 2006, the indication of Costa Brava was removed.
The Denomination of Origin Empordà has a very suitable climate for good vegetative growth and for producing high quality wines.
Winters are mild with occasional frosts, and summers are hot but temperate thanks to the proximity of the sea. The characteristic climate of the area is the Tramontana, as this north wind can reach over 120 kilometers per hour, but on the other hand it also helps to keep the vines in a good state of health.
The DO Empordà occupies 2,020 hectares of vineyards distributed in 55 municipalities, reaching the lands of the Alt and Baix Empordà regions, of which 35 belong to Alt Empordà and 20 to Baix Empordà.
