Ribera del Duero
Ribera del Duero is a Designation of Origin that includes vineyards located in Castilla y Leon, within a strip of the Duero River basin.
The provisional recognition of the DO was in 1979, but it was not until 1982 that it was made official.
The wines from DO Ribera del Duero are mainly reds:
Tinto Joven: not aged in barrels or aged for less than 12 months
Crianza red wine: aging no less than 24 months
Reserve red wine: 36 months of ageing, with a minimum of 12 months in oak barrels
Gran Reserva red wine: aged for 60 months, with a minimum of 24 months in oak barrels
Rosé: produced with at least 50% of red varieties and a minimum alcohol content of 11º.
